No Ticket Counters at Railway Stations

This is an important update for rail passengers.  Now you will not see ticket counters found at railway stations.  Railway is preparing to close the ticket counter.  This move of Indian Railways can become a problem for those people who buy tickets only from the ticket counter.  By the way, most of the people now book their train tickets online.  But still many people prefer to take tickets from such ticket counters.  Or sometimes in case of emergency people buy tickets from the ticket counter.  But very soon you will not get to see these ticket counters found at railway stations.  With this move of Indian Railways, people will be more dependent on online booking than ever before.

What is the preparation of Railways

According to the information received from the Railways, all the ticket counters in the country will not be closed simultaneously.  Steps will be taken in different phases.  Railways has set a target of closing 300 ticket counters this year.  Similarly, ticket counters will be gradually closed.

Emphasis on online booking

This decision of Indian Railways will benefit IRCTC the most.  I myself book train tickets online through IRCTC.  According to a report, IRCTC currently accounts for 80 per cent of the total ticket bookings.  This will increase further with the latest decision of the Railways.  The Railways had sought the advice of a parliamentary committee before taking the decision.

You can book 24 tickets in a month: Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRTC) has recently changed its ticket booking rules.  For the convenience of passengers, IRCTC has decided to increase the ticket booking limit from 6 to 12 in a month for those whose accounts are not linked with Aadhaar.  This will make it easier for them to travel more.  Similarly, those whose accounts are linked with Aadhaar can book a total of 24 tickets in a month instead of 12.
